If you are new to Ashtanga Yoga attending a beginner’s/foundation course may be the best option to get an insight into what the practice is about. The foundation courses are also suitable to practitioners of other styles of yoga who would like to learn Ashtanga thoroughly and understand more about its background and methodology.
Beginner’s courses cover the basics of Ashtanga yoga starting with a short introduction to yoga philosophy followed by a gradual learning of some asanas (sun salutations, standing postures, finishing postures) of the Ashtanga yoga primary series. Focus is particularly put on linking breath and movement in the so called vinyasa krama system. We also learn about Bandhas (energy locks in the body) and Drishti (focus).
All students attending beginner’s courses are encouraged to attend Mysore classes in parallel to the course. One free Mysore session per week is complementary in the course price.
